How we got started in plastic injection molding

Agape Plastics evolves to meet customer needs

Agapé Plastics, Inc. provides plastic injection molding to a diverse customer base across North America through creatively engineered solutions of custom injection molded and insert molded products. Today, we service a diverse customer base in the automotive, agricultural, office furniture, and consumer goods sectors.

We continue to grow and expand to meet our customers’ molding needs. Our current manufacturing footprint is 144,000 sq. ft. with the capability of supporting up to a 2,000 ton Horizontal Press.

Our growth has been possible because of the support of our customers, employees, suppliers and the vision of Tom and Cindi Alt. Without everyone working together, our past and future success simply would not be possible. Here’s a look at our major milestones.

History and growth of Agapé Plastics

1973

Agapé was founded in 1973 by Tom Alt and incorporated in 1980. By the late 1970s, we were providing injection moldings to Steelcase and American Seating. We broke into the automotive business in 1983 with a two-bolt stud plate that was developed with GM’s Oldsmobile division. This product was patented, and became the springboard for a series of insert-molded fasteners that remain the core of our insert molding business.

1986

By 1986, we’d outgrown our facility (as our production volume had increased exponentially) and a warehouse space was added that helped us to accommodate the 15-20 shipments we made each month. Later that year Alt and his wife, Cindi, purchased a 20,000 square-foot facility where we spent the next 12 years. In 1987 we purchased an adjacent building and built a 7,000 square-foot addition to house our new interior parts paint line for our client, Prince Corporation.

1991

In 1991 we won a contract to provide large multi-insert fasteners to Saturn. Throughout the 1990s we continued to grow within the automotive industry. Utilizing our growing expertise in injection insert molding and our years of development work, we began to do molding work for Paulstra, Nascote, GM, Ford, and Chrysler. In 1995 we received ISO registration, in 1997, QS 9000 and in 2003, TS 16949 registration.

1999

We moved into our current facility in 1999. This plant had 54,000 square feet of manufacturing space and allowed us to continue to grow with customer demand. Today we produce various types of plastic molded parts–everything from insert molded shift levers that go onto Nexteer columns, to air bag retainers for TRW steering wheels.

2005

In 2005 we received our Minority Certification with the approval of Women Owned Business Certification from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. This has helped our growth in automotive and allows us continued opportunity for expansion.

2009

Our molding capabilities increased to 1,000 ton machines in 2009, allowing us to produce and supply the larger-sized parts required by our customers.

2012

We increased the size of our facility with a 24,000-square-foot expansion in 2012. This additional space accommodates the larger tonnage machines and manufacturing space that was needed due to growth and the acquisition of multiple new contracts.

2016

We completed our second building expansion, adding an additional 53,600 square feet.

2018

We completed our third expansion, increasing our total square footage to over 145,000 square feet. This expansion allows for additional growth and molding capabilities in 2018 and beyond.

2020

We faced significant production challenges amid the global pandemic but emerged resilient. Through innovation and adaptability, we continued to serve our customers and safeguard the well-being of our employees during this unprecedented period.

2023

We celebrated the 50th anniversary of Agape Plastics Inc. From our modest beginnings to the expansive 150,000+ square-foot facility we now call home, Agape Plastics has thrived by delivering world-class injection molded parts. Our success is built on a foundation of dedicated, loyal employees and a commitment to excellence that has stood the test of time.

2024

We remain focused on enhancing efficiency, advancing automation, and strengthening our competitive edge. As we look ahead to the future, we are committed to building on our legacy and driving innovation, with our sights set on another 50 years of excellence in injection molding and assembly.
